It all started with a swipe…

How they met…

It all started with a swipe... or more specifically, a Super-like. In June of 2021, Brett was swiping through Tinder when he stumbled upon Mackenzie’s profile. Something about her just caught his eye, so he hit that blue Super-like button, hoping she’d notice him. Mackenzie, always open to meeting new people, swiped right—and that was the beginning of it all.

For two weeks, the two exchanged messages, getting to know one another. But Brett, being a little nervous, accidentally asked her on a date that was two weeks away. However, when the time finally came and Brett picked Mackenzie up for their first date, the moment they sat down together, they felt an instant connection. After just two weeks of dating, they were practically inseparable.

Even though they lived forty minutes apart—Brett in Alliston and Mackenzie in Minesing—nothing was going to stop them from spending time together. Every night, they’d drive back and forth, just to be in each other’s company. Soon enough, they couldn’t imagine life without the other.

In October of 2021, they got a sweet little kitten together named Willow. Mackenzie already had her beloved Millie, and now, with Willow joining the crew, their lives were filled with even more love and laughter. Little did Mackenzie know, Brett was already starting to plan the next big step in their relationship: a proposal!

The proposal

Brett, being the thoughtful planner he is, started scheming a surprise proposal. He worked out every little detail, even getting the engagement ring at the jewelry store where Mackenzie worked—under a fake name, no less, and with secret meetings after hours with her boss to keep the surprise under wraps.

By May of 2022, everything was coming together for the Proposal on the May 24’ long weekend. Brett made sure all the details were sorted - he coordinated with the hotel staff at Deer Hurst Resort to arrange a perfect spot for the proposal and made sure Mackenzie got that weekend off at work.

Mackenzie, of course, thought the long weekend would simply be a chance to relax. She was thrilled when her boss gave her the long weekend off, and told Brett they could head to the cottage the next day. But Brett, being the master of keeping a secret (which usually isn’t how the story goes), had other plans. The next day, he pretended to procrastinate, making stop after stop along the way all to stretch out the time. Finally, as they neared Highway 60, just 15 minutes from the cottage, Brett took a “wrong turn,” which, in reality, led them straight to Deerhurst Resort.

Mackenzie, none the wiser, went along with it. Brett had packed a nice outfit and told her they had a dinner reservation at the steakhouse nearby. As they sat down for dinner, Brett was beyond nervous—so much so that the dinner felt a little awkward—but the moment they finished, he knew it was time. He led Mackenzie to the gazebo by the lake, where he dropped to one knee and asked her to spend forever with him.

Without a second passing, Mackenzie said yes, and the rest, as they say, is history. Now, as they plan their wedding, they’re so excited to continue this beautiful journey together, hand in hand, just as they’ve always been.
